Sketch of the Day Week 21

Week 21

Neural Networks

In my spare time I’ve been trying to figure out Neural Nets. It’s pretty easy to wrap your mind around, but it’s the details of the math equations that are tripping me up for now. David Miller has created a great set of videos that explain it in great detail that have helped a lot.

And make sure to check out the rest of his videos.  It looks like some interesting stuff there.

Sketch of the day Weeks 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20

The reason for my lack of posts was due to life getting a little busy. For the most part I was able to draw every day, but I missed a few weeks. At work I released two games – UNO & Friends and Epic the Official Game within one week of one another. And in my personal life, my wife gave birth to a baby boy and in the same month we moved, so these posts will remain a little erratic for now.

Week 20

After 100 drawings, I mentioned to a co-worker that I wasn’t making much progress getting better and he suggested that I try blocking out the shapes and ignore the smoothing for now. So that’s what I will be doing for the next little while.

Sketch of the day Week 14

Week14I missed uploading an image set last weekend and I may miss a week or two in the coming month as well.  I’m trying to catch up but work and life are getting in the way these days.

Just continuing to work on the shading.  Nothing much new to report.

Reverse engineering 3ds max files part 2

[Part 1]

This next post is for programmers who like working with files at the low level.  I’ve figured out another part of the .max file format and it’s useful for grabbing thumbnails out of the files without needing 3DS Max to be installed.  If anyone figures out the parts I have question marks on, please leave a message at the bottom.  I would like to flesh this out some more.  Especially the thumbnail header.  I just can’t seem to find any standard bitmap header that works.

Sketch a day Week 13

Week13I’m just working on the shadows and getting them to form the proper shapes of the faces.  Apparently I also need to increase the contrast between the midtone and darkness because It’s kind of hard to see the faces in this weeks batch.
